Description of the session

The session will deal with the impacts of the supply chains disruptions of the last 3 years, both from a strategic point of view, an operational point of view and. We will also take time to analyse this from a more worldwide macro-economical point of view. Also geo-political impacts, sustainability, data and innovations in supply chains will be discussed. 

 

The session will be a mix of interactive lectures, a strategic workshop focussing on air freight in global supply chains and expert insights about the relation between worldwide supply chains and worldwide economical performance.

short bio about the lecturer

Roel Gevaers, PhD is a professor and Senior Supply Chain Manager.
He obtained his PhD about Innovations in Last Mile, Reverse and Waste Logistics at the University of Antwerp in 2013. During his academic research (since 2007), he advised several governments and companies (ex. Flemish Government, P&G) on logistics and last mile topics.
From 2014 until June 2018, he worked at Ahold Delhaize (multinational retailer) as Supply Chain Program Manager, where he focused on state-of-the-art innovations and automation/Robotics in complex supply chain environments. From June 2018 until April 2022, he worked at BD Logistics (Belgian logistics company) as Logistics Innovation Manager, where he developed and advised on new last mile, reverse and eCommerce concepts as well as on all strategies concerning mergers and acquisitions within the company (Ex. Citydepot, Dockx Select, etc.).
Now he provides expert advice to companies and governments around logistics and supply chain strategy. Next to his managerial activities, he became part-time professor at the University of Antwerp in 2019. Since 2020 he is professor at the Antwerp Management School. Furthermore, he is also guest lecturer at several other international universities.
Roel Gevaers strongly believes in and supports collaborations and strong relations between business and academic research.
